CHASTAIN PARK TO INCLUDE 30-ACRE PALISADES PROJECT!

Twelve to 16 months of construction is set to begin for the Palisades Project at Chastain Park before the end of the year. Once completed, the expansion will transform roughly 30 acres of underutilized natural landscape into distinctive public greenspace.
“Since the 1940s, Chastain Park has been an Atlanta recreational gem, and the Palisades Project represents an exciting next chapter in its history,” says Rosa McHugh, president and CEO of Chastain Park Conservancy.
Landscape architecture firm Lord Aeck Sargent designed the project, which will be built by SG Contracting. McHugh says the community has been clear it wants more passive greenspace. The project will open a section of the park that’s long been inaccessible. Plans include a 1-mile trail system, a native tree arboretum, a natural play space for children, a native plant garden and scenic overlooks with views across the golf course and Nancy Creek Valley. The project also incorporates environmental restoration work to protect wildlife habitats along the creek corridor. A new pedestrian bridge will span Nancy Creek to connect visitors to the site, alongside a new entrance drive and parking area serving the Conservancy offices, Farm Chastain and the trail system.
Chastain Park draws more than 3 million visitors annually, and Conservancy leaders say the demand for accessible, natural areas continues to grow. The Palisades Project is designed to meet that need by transforming an untouched section of the park into a space where visitors can walk, gather and experience a quieter, more natural side of Chastain.
“We’re grateful to have a strong partner in the City of Atlanta, whose collaboration is helping make this vision a reality so generations of Atlantans can enjoy this incredible regional park for years to come,” McHugh says.
