Atlanta’s first Michelin Guide was officially announced in October. Out of the 45 local restaurants that were recognized, Atlas, Bacchanalia, Hayakawa, Lazy Betty and Mujō each earned Michelin’s one-star designation.

“It is extremely impressive to earn a Michelin distinction, and people around the world are now starting to learn about Atlanta’s restaurant scene through this guide,” says Andrew Wilson, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, who was instrumental in bringing the guide to town.

Bacchanalia and The Chastain (whose sommelier, Juan Fernando Cortés, also earned the Atlanta Sommelier Award) also took home Michelin Green Stars that “demonstrates our commitment to sustainable gastronomy,” Wilson says.

“To be awarded One Michelin Star alongside a Green Star is more special than I could have imagined,” says Anne Quatrano, award-winning chef, restaurateur and co-owner of Bacchanalia. “Our city is filled with truly terrific restaurants, and for that to be recognized—and celebrated—is special…It rewards the hard-working chefs and teams and the collaborative and supportive culinary community that many have worked tirelessly to create over the years.”

Michelin’s entry into Atlanta also bodes well for the city’s restaurant scene as a whole, says J. Trent Harris, executive chef and partner at Mujō. “The Michelin Guide will help to elevate the dining scene in Atlanta,” Harris says. “I want to see more chefs and more diners continue to raise their standards while keeping a focus on quality of life for our teams.”
