Known as ArtSS in the Open, the initiative between the city and the local nonprofit Art Sandy Springs features nine pieces selected from a national competition that drew 135 submissions from artists around the country, including Steve Steinman from Atlanta. Based on the theme “Inspired. By Nature,” the sculptures are placed around the City Green, and visitors can learn about each one by following the Art Walk guide listed on the City Springs website. As an alternative, visitors can read about the sculptures on the Otocast app, which details art in various cities.
These particular pieces will be on display through March 2020, at which time the city will purchase one or more sculptures to place in permanent locations around Sandy Springs.
A free exhibit open to the public, ArtSS in the Open will change out the sculptures and artists each season as part of the annual competition, giving visitors an opportunity to continually experience new art.
