As a young adult, anytime I romanticized about traveling somewhere new, my father would say, “Planes leave every day. What is stopping you?” As a result of his influence, I’ve visited numerous global destinations and experienced all kinds of itineraries. But as time has become more precious, I’m finding it hard to follow the crowds to popular and overexposed locations where everyone comes away with a similar experience. I find myself looking for one-of-akind travel destinations personalized to my priorities and purpose. That is exactly what this issue’s cover feature is about. In the pages ahead, you’ll read about individuals who have found a way to fulfill their purpose through travel and for whom travel fulfills a purpose. From one man’s drive to run marathons on all seven continents to locals’ volunteering overseas, the profiles shared are of people in our community fulfilling their life and travel goals all in one.
This issue also includes a variety of entertaining pieces, from a fashion profile on Alicia Stemper, founder of colorful local jewelry brand Wondermint Goods, to an informative beauty feature on how to support your skin microbiome. Writer Carly Cooper also interviewed Reza Momin of The Gelatist, a Italian-style gelateria in Sandy Springs, for our Food Tastemaker, and I delighted in recounting a much-needed getaway last spring with my husband to Southall Farm & Inn in Franklin, Tennessee.
I hope this issue motivates you to put a new travel destination on your list— one that checks more than one box—and to actually make the trip happen. After all, planes leave every day!
