STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDING RACE ON THE “HOOCH” IS PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS
High Country Outfitters is hosting its sixth annual Stand Up for the Hooch race on the Chattahoochee River on June 25. Both first-time and experienced paddlers can participate in one of the biggest stand up paddleboarding (SUP) races in the Southeast, which includes two courses that are 2 and 6 miles, respectively, with mostly flat surfaces and slight currents. The kids’ race for ages 6 to 12 is free to enter and starts at the same place, but only goes for a quarter mile. Boards are available for rent in advance by booking on High Country Outfitters’ website, or you can bring your own. Family and friends can watch the race from the start at Morgan Falls Overlook Park. Participants receive T-shirts with their packet pickup the morning of the race, as well as lunch and SweetWater beer afterwards at High Country Outfitters store in Buckhead. Prizes will be awarded for all age groups, including money and SUP and outdoor gear. This year’s race will benefit Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Scholarships that support youth programs. – Caroline Eubanks
